流动的成语—— 英语连字符合成词的修辞和翻译研究

Abstract

英语连字符合成词作为英语语言中独特的构词现象,因其形式稳定且衍生能力强,与汉语的成语相似,笔者将其比拟为“流动的成语”。本文主要通过对外刊杂志的句子分析,揭示连字符合成词在修辞功能上的多样表现,即示现、折绕和隐喻。本文进一步探讨了连字符合成词的翻译难点,指出语境包晕和借用现有成语是较优的翻译方法。研究表明,连字符合成词不仅在英语报刊中具有重要审美价值,也体现了英汉互译中等同于中国成语的桥梁作用。
